Symphony Sushi

A place I may never set foot into.

I once saw a TikTok where the creator talks about a restaurant from which he always orders delivery, but has never set foot inside. I thought to myself, there is no way people order food from places they have never been to. Well, after my move to Boston, I found my delivery-only restaurant, Symphony Sushi.  Later, the TikTok diner realizes that this mystery restaurant is a mere block away from his apartment. Funny thing, my restaurant is on my daily commute. I find it so amusing that what seems like an unusual situation instead isn’t that far out. So, while I won’t be giving my opinion on anything other than the food, that’s what makes this place shine. 

            I judge a sushi place on one roll only, the rest are the backup dancers only adding to it, but not making it. My roll of judgment is the spicy tuna roll, something on every menu but made in a thousand diverse ways. To start, the ratio of tuna to rice must be such that the tuna flavor can shine through beside some rice which makes it more than just downing some raw fish. In addition, the spicy mayo must give me a little tingle on the tongue while still allowing the remaining flavors to be present and add a slight touch of creaminess. This roll allows for the quality of the restaurant's fish to be immediately detected but also represents how effectively they can incorporate other flavors. By my criteria, Symphony Sushi executes the spicy tuna roll perfectly.

            I must be honest in that my sushi order doesn’t get too crazy because I tend to enjoy the simple but well-rounded rolls. Another roll always added to my cart is sweet potato tempura, especially if topped with eel sauce. Symphony sushi can achieve a tender potato with a crispy tempura shell and the not-too-overpowering drizzle of eel sauce. I cannot say that every sushi place knows how to cook sweet potato tempura: it's either still hard and just overall flavorless or way too soft and mushy, but Symphony has found the sweet spot.

            I don’t know if I will ever make the jump and visit Symphony Sushi in person, but for now, I'll always have my reliable, fulfilling go-to delivery spot.
